We met at Skwachays lodge where I was living at the time. Maria basically lived there as well. There was always some sparks flying but we never made the connection. We grew closer years later during covid, we started exchanging cat pics and chatting frequently. Until one day I convinced Maria to let me come over and help retile her kitchen floors. I sent her a life-sized Harry Styles pillow for her birthday. She lost all her IDs and needed to get to Saskatchewan. I offered a ride and the rest is history. -JMPS

The baby
We were quick to get our life together started. Just over a year later we brought our beautiful daughter, Mino-Margaret, into this world.
Witnessing Mino grow into her sweet, funny, smart, beautiful self has been the joy of our lives. Witnessing each-other grow along with her as both parents and partners, has strengthened and deepened our love in way we could never have imaged.
The Proposal
On a road-trip to Saskatchewan two years after our “best road trip ever” I decided to pop the big question. I did it in the beautiful prairie fields under the July prairie sunset. “The most beautiful place on Earth” as Maria had remarked our first road trip. full-circle moment -JMPS
After our second road trip, bringing Mino home at six weeks, it officially became a family tradition. Growing up, road trips with my family — in our fifteen seater van — were the highlight of my childhood. I searched for that feeling everywhere in my twenties and finally found it again in Mangeshig and Mino. Driving to that spot along the river, racing against the sunset, looking across the water Mino in my arms , it was an easy yes for me. -MM
